Summary: this research aims to analyze the effectiveness of "sustainable practices" carried out by transnational mining companies in Pará. It is important to highlight the relevance of economic orientation toward the extraction of minerals in Brazil and in the Amazon, and that transnational corporations responsible for the exploitation of mineral resources should follow standards and standards recommended by international organizations, which include the administration of the environmental and economic impacts through "sustainable practices". Thus, questioned to what extent the economic growth generated by the transnational companies promote the sustainable development of the State of Pará disseminated by international organizations in defence of human rights. Thus, aims to investigate through the critical social theory in what way the "sustainable practices" actually translate into effective speeches that are placed on actions, projects and programs proposed by these companies, as well as what are the implications of the policy of sustainable development for the people living around the mining activities in Pará. In short, there will be field research and desk, as well as review of the basic bibliography of the field and related social theories bibliography, development and human rights.
