Doctoral Student: MONICA DE MELO MEDEIROS
Abstract: This project of doctoral thesis qualification intends to analyze the conceptions of Amazonia, as an analytical category, from intellectual elaborations that analyze and interpret it, under different theoretical perspectives. The research is based on the historical and dialectical materialism method, in order to understand the search for the multiple determinations of the phenomenon under study, with a view to the totality that is reached through the apprehension of the mediations. The methodology will be based on the bibliographical survey of classic and contemporary authors, besides the search for academic productions in the following digital platforms: (a) Plataforma Sucupira, with the objective of prioritizing scientific production within the scope of Brazilian Social Service, encompassing master's and doctorate conclusion papers; (b) the thesis bank of the Postgraduate Program in Sustainable Development of the Humid Tropics of the Nucleus of High Amazonian Studies/UFPA; and (c) the Catalog of Theses and Dissertations of the Coordination for the Improvement of Higher Level Personnel, as a way of encompassing papers from the most diverse areas of knowledge. The research hypothesis is that the socio-historical specificities of the Amazon encompass conceptions that range from a) an ahistorical perspective: in which society relates to nature apart from mediations because it privileges the region as a strategic space of action as a potential for capital valorization; b) historical perspective: in which there is an understanding of the history of the region in an ecological way, in which society and nature are intertwined and are one thing and for the maintenance of life, the region depends on nature conservationist practices and c) historical and socially contextualized perspective: in which there is an understanding of the Amazon as a region with a dialectical relationship between society and nature.
Keywords: Amazonia; expropriation; dialectics between society and nature.
