Title of the Dissertation Project: “The Social Assistance Policy in the Context of the COVID-19 Pandemic: a study on the measures adopted to face it in the municipality of Belém-PA.”

Abstract: This project aims to analyze the management of social assistance policy, having as empirical reference, the municipality of Belém, State of Pará in the context of the Covid-19 pandemic. In this historic time of socio-sanitary crisis, which is added to the crisis of capital, evidenced the social and structural inequalities that exist in Brazil, above all, it increased the difficulties of serving the population as a result of the dismantling of social policies, especially in the social assistance policy. Contradictorily, the federal government, in order to mitigate the effects and offer answers to a contingent of workers whose situation of vulnerability is more aggravated by the virus due to unemployment, calls on social policies as a strategy to face the pandemic. To understand this phenomenon that presents itself in reality with its present and long-term consequences, the historical materialism method will be used, with interviews to collect information about the specificity of Belém do Pará in this national scenario. With the accomplishment of the bibliographic survey, a trend pointed out by several authors was identified, which is the return of immediate and conservative practices.
